Let’s Talk Trash

Let’s Talk Trash

Understanding when trash, recycling, and yard waste pick-up occurs is definitely a popular topic amongst our fellow neighbors.  Become the trash-talking expert of Oakleaf by checking out the guidelines set by Clay County and Advanced Disposal.

When to Place Curbside

Recycling and trash containers should not be placed curbside prior to 6 p.m. the day before pick-up. Keep them away from mailboxes, water or gas meters, and about 3’—5’ from the street.  Be sure to bring in your containers by 6 a.m. the day after pick-up.

What Day Is Pick-Up?

Household garbage pick-up occurs once a week, on Monday.  Yard waste and recycling is picked up every Friday.  There is no pick-up on the following holidays – Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Typically, services resume the day after but check Advanced Disposal’s website to get a better idea of when they’ll come by during holidays or inclement weather events.

Yard Waste

Collected separately from garbage, yard waste includes grass clippings, leaves, shrub trimmings, tree limbs, and palm fronds.  They shouldn’t exceed more than 4’ in length and should be placed in a neat stack.  Avoid including any single items that weigh more than 50 pounds.

Bulky Items
In the event that your household waste or individual items exceed 50 pounds in weight, contact Advanced Disposal at 904-695-0500. Residents are encouraged to call so they can schedule a pickup of bulky items, such as large appliances and sleeper sofas.

What’s Recyclable?

Items that you can safely recycle include aluminum cans and foil, steel cans, plastics #1 – #7, newspaper and inserts, magazines, and clear, brown, and green glass. Place recyclable items in the bins and keep them separated by type. Make sure to break down boxes and keep them neatly stacked together. In need of a bin, or maybe want an extra one? Contact Advanced Disposal to find out how you can get one for your home.

Tips and Best Practices

Remember not to overload!  Should you have garbage that exceeds 40 pounds, contact Advanced Disposal for a special pick-up.  You’ll also want to make sure your trash cans have handles and lids and that they are free of any sharp or jagged edges.  Should you need to replace your bin, you can purchase a new garbage container from any local home improvement store.

Maintaining a Beautiful Oakleaf

During the rest of the time, the rules and regulations for OakLeaf East POA state that owners and tenants are to keep trash cans, garbage bags, and recycling bins stored out of sight from the street, or from an adjacent neighbor.   This allows for a cleaner appearance of our neighborhood and minimizes the risk of invasive wildlife that comes with keeping trash stored outside.  With these guidelines in mind, you’ll be the top trash-talker of the neighborhood!
